No. 488 is traveling through an incredible display of fall color on the Cumbres and Toltec Railroad in Sublette, New Mexico. Sublette sits at an elevation of 9,281 feet in the southeastern San Juan Mountains.
The Denver and Rio Grande Western K-36 is a 3-foot narrow gauge 2-8-2 “Mikado” type steam locomotive built for the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad (D&RGW) by Baldwin Locomotive Works. They were shipped to the Rio Grande in 1925
