The Three Faces of Pippi - Delight
Pippi’s mother is a Swiss Angora and her father is a Turkish milk goat. Here she stares in anticipation and delight at the Angelica which grows wild on the balds of the Roan Mountain Highlands and is one the goat’s favorite plants.
Pippi is one of a herd of Angora goats on the Highlands near the Appalachian Trail which runs along the Tennessee / North Carolina border. She is a 2014 addition to The Goats of Roan series.
The goats spend the summer on the mountain balds at 5700-5800’ in elevation as part of the Baa-tany Goat project. The 10-year project began in 2008 in an attempt to restore the Grassy and Alder Balds using goats as an experimental management tool.
