Tobacco is drying overhead in this double corncrib at the Tipton-Haynes historic site in Johnson City, TN. The corncrib was built using large chestnut logs and half dovetail notch construction. .The house on the property was built by Colonel John Tipton in 1784. John Tipton’s son, William, fought with him in the Revolutionary War and owned the first Tennessee land grant in Cades Cove, Great Smoky Mountains, which was registered on March 23, 1821. .William and many of his relatives and friends were some of the first settlers in Cades Cove..
