The Second Continental Congress selected the Bald Eagle as the U. S. National Symbol on June 20, 1782.
Sitting about three feet tall, this majestic bird has a wingspan of more than six feet. A mature Bald Eagle has a snowy-white head and tail with a dark brown body, lemon-yellow eyes and a powerful set of legs and feet.
