Emerging From Missionary Ridge
TThe Tennessee Valley Railroad trains run on an historic route which includes Missionary Ridge Tunnel. Construction of the tunnel was started by the Chattanooga, Harrison, Georgetown and Charleston Railroad which went bankrupt before the work was completed. The tunnel was completed in 1858 by the East Tennessee and Georgia Railroad as part of their Chattanooga Branch.
Southern Railway 4501 is a 2-8-2 "Mikado" type steam locomotive built in October 1911 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works for the Southern Railway. 4501 served the Southern hauling freight until being retired in 1964.
